“This is our primary source of livelihood. If we do not take care of it, there might be a time when we will have nothing to eat,” says Mr. Laudico Perez, SUGPO President, the Samahang Ugnayan ng Pangisdaan ng Orion “Who else will take care of it except for us who benefit from the sea?

Two mangrove nurseries were established in Balut and Camachile, where propagules are nurtured prior to reforestation. Harvesting of propagules is conducted only during January to May because of limited propagules. Nonetheless, the organization encourages its members to continually collect propagules. Mangrove species nurtured include bakauan lalake (Rhizophora Apiculata), bakauan babae (Rhizophora mucronata), bungalon (Avicennia marina) and pagatpat (Sonneratia alba). Nipa seeds are also being propagated, and if successful will be planted along the rivers. The organization will be strengthening its mangrove reforestation and fishery surveillance operations in the coming months through capacity building for its members. One major activity is also to develop second-tier of leaders to ensure the continuity of the organization. Taal Lake and Volcano Tour

TAAL Lake Cruise and Island Volcano Tour

http://mothernatureasia.multiply.com/photos/album/17

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=121909981175324

Taal Volcano is a highly active volcano at the heart of a larger protected area established in 1996.  The Taal Volcano Protected Landscape is composed of over 65,000 hectares in 13 towns and 3 cities, including Lipa City, Tanauan City and Tagaytay.

The entire area is a land of mystery and shrouded in myths.  Most of the tourism is concentrated on Tagaytay Ridge and the shoreline of Talisay town.  There are, however, other entry points to the crater as well as other attractions that a visitor would find interesting.

Pusod offers a glimpse of the ancient past of the region, debunking myths told about this mysterious caldera, exploring the archeological and biological mysteries from the viewpoint of scientists themselves all from the gentler side of the lake where the Tagalog culture is still most evident.

Pusod is primarily an environmental education NGO.  No other tour can offer the wealth of information on the lake basin that Pusod can, as we were instrumental in all the 16 consultations undertaken for the management plan of the lake basin.   Our tours also ensure as little economic leakage as possible, ensuring that local businesses are patronized and accredited guides regale you with the lake’s legends and  the culture in the heartland of the Batangueños.   Experts on Taal: a biologist, a geophysicist and an archeologist/journalist will also be guiding you by audio (on an MP3 we will loan you).

10:00 am Start riding down the volcano (optional swim in shallow portion in the middle of the lake)

11:30 Back at TLCC, Enjoy a sumptuous lunch of native and Batangas fusion cuisine, fresh buko on the shell.

EcoCultural Experience with Ifugao Tribes

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=117845728279301

The Banaue Rice Terraces are 2000-year old terraces that were carved into the mountains of Ifugao in the Philippines by ancestors of the indigenous people. The Rice Terraces are commonly referred to by Filipinos as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. It is commonly thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. The terraces are located approximately 1500 meters (5000 ft) above sea level and cover 10,360 square kilometers (about 4000 square miles) of mountainside. They are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces. It is said that if the steps are put end to end it would encircle half the globe.

The Banaue terraces are part of the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, ancient sprawling man-made structures from 2,000 to 6,000 years old. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banaue_Rice_Terraces

Villa Escudero n Sampaloc Lake Tour

Villa Escudero

San Pablo City, Quezon Province

Experience the allure of Philippine country life at Villa Escudero Plantations and Resort. A self-contained working coconut plantation, It was founded in the 1880s by Don Placido Escudero and his wife Don  a Claudia Marasigan. Originally planted to sugarcane, the crop was converted to coconut by their son Don Arsenio Escudero in the early 1900s. A pioneering agro-industrialist, he built the country’s first working hydroelectric plant to supply his dessicated coconut factory and Villa Escudero, where he and his wife Dona Rosario Adap built in 1929.

From its humble beginnings, the resort has become a prime tourist destination for locals, overseas Filipinos and a wide array of foreign visitors to the country. It has a worldwide reputation as a showcase for the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, offering a beguiling glimpse of its history, cuisine, dress, customs and natural beauty a mere two hours away from Manila.

You’ll be welcomed with a warm greeting and a cool tropical drink. Be exhilarated by majestic volcanic mountains, rows of regal coconut trees, luxuriant fields and the happy faces and light-hearted voices of the village folk. All combine into a distinct adventure.

After lunch, enjoy the Philippine Experience Show and watch the country’s cultural legacy come beautifully to life. Paddle a native bamboo raft on the still waters of the lake, explore the grounds, watch for many of the 95 recorded resident bird species, take a dip at the pool, and tour the rural village in a colorful jeepney and observe how coconut is harvested.
