Marine Turtles are transboundary creatures, they travel great distances to feed and grow. But because as hatchlings the imprint the magnetic fiel of area they always go back to where they were hatched after 25 to 30 years to copulate and lay their eggs.

How ever communities especially in underdeveloped countries, uninformed of their functions in the environment have hunted them down in the sea or slaughtered them while they lay their eggs in the beach for their shell and skin. While their eggs and meat are collected as food.

NACCI now promotes and support the Pawikan Conservation Center, a community based project of reformed poachers in the protection of the turtles.

And a vast stretch of marvelous sea waiting for the beach bummers

In a still-unexplained natural phenomenon, droves of these rare animals appear in the waters off this town in Sorsogon.

Get the chance to swim with the gentle giant whale sharks found in Donsol, Sorsogon. FYI: they are vegetarian, promise. Then, row your way and enjoy the magnificent view of nipas and trees in Bicol river, understanding the fresh water ecosystem, that attracts the shark whales. And experience the magical sights of thousands of fireflies dancing, flickering and romancing making the trees glow in the dark. And get to wonder at the majestic Mayon Volcano in Albay.

Surfing Season November to February

Surf in San Fernando is mainly situated around San Juan about 7 kilometers north of the city in a developing “Bario” (hamlet) picturesque Urbiztondo. Its the gateway to many uncrowded points and beach breaks still rarely surfed. A right hand reef point break that works at its best with a north producing swell and giving good quality waves on its best days, can hold up to 8 to 10ft. A beach break in the centre of the bay that offers good clean lefts and rights that work best on a low tide will hold up to 6 to 8ft a great fun wave but often crowded especially weekends. The left point often works in both ways depending on swell direction but is considered shallow by many and is less crowded, can be a 200 metre left hander when it works and a freight train right hander on the north swell.

Tides and Seasons

The tide here works on a 2 tide system per day 1 high and 1 low averaging just over 12 hours between

high and low thus creeping forward each day gradually, giving longer than normal surfing sessions on the right tide. The most consistent time of year starts around October and goes through to March with peak times around December and January which tends to be the more crowded time of year attracting surfers from all around the world.

http://mrcoolex.multiply.com/photos/album/19/Mt._Pinatubo#

First there’s the terrain: a vast expanse of land reaching out of the horizon, strewn with hills, mountains, streams, rocks, pebbles, and boulders the size of cars. Then there’s the omnipresent sand, which gets into everything and everywhere else. Finally there’s the journey it self: Sixty minutes of bumping adventure, grinding 4 x 4 action, followed by 45 min to 1 hour trek. Raw, rugged yet beautiful, Mt. Pinatubo – the EASY Climb.

Rising some 1780 meters above the plains, Mt. Pinatubo made headlines when it erupted 1991, burning a path of devastation throughout Central Luzon. Now Mt. Pinatubo is again a focus of attention as an attraction for eco-tourist.

“AHI ANI”, the season for harvesting the golden grains of the traditional Ifugao rice, a time for the mumbaki to narrate the myth of the origin of the rice and offer animal sacrifices to the deities of agriculture.

Tribal drums will play in the background as ancient culture heroes of the Ifugaos are invoked in the chanting of the hudhud, the local epic internationally acclaimed both for its length and antiquity.

Feel the earth and get your feet muddied, join the harvest and indulge in the simplicity of rustic living. Take moderate sips of the Ifugao rice wine and fill your senses with the diverse scents of mud, sweet hay and the mountain air.
