The Community Life Tours implemented by the San Vicente Mangrove Association (SAVIMA) started in the year 2003 with initiatives of Peace Corps. Volunteer, Ms. Aileen Wedel and PROCESS-Bohol, Inc.  The said project was coordinated with the Municipal and Barangay  LGUs of Maribojoc and other partner line agencies.

Guided Mangrove Awareness and its benefits to marine life and conservation

  1. Through a 500 meters length bamboo boardwalk
  2. 21 species of mangroves (bakhaw babaye and lalaki, bungalon, lapis-lapis etc.)
  3. Local tour guide explaining mangrove habitat and its contribution to ecosystems

Demonstrations

  1. Shell “Embao” gathering
  2. Shrimp “Takla” gathering
  3. Mangrove Planting
  4. Nipa Weaving
  5. Coconut Climbing

Mangrove Planting

  1. “Do it yourself” planting of potted mangroves or propagules
  2. Community demonstration (in case visitor prefer not to perform)

Inter-action with the officers and members of the organization

  1. History of the CLT initiatives
  2. Organizational, management and structure of SAVIMA
  3. Sharing of experiences both the organization and visitors

Harana (Serenade) during lunchtime or homestay

Homestay

  • Low cost accommodation to “PO’s accredited houses”
  • Includes 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner (optional: 2 snacks)
  • Observance of local culture and traditions

Sumptuous meal (seafoods, fruits and native delicacies)
