Joiner’s Reg Fee P 300/pax and everything at actual cost. Seedlings at P 50 each, inc support to local community taking care of the Mangrove Park.  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=134119009951648&ref=mf

This mangrove forest is a living proof of a successful rehabilitation effort. Even before World War II, the area was a favorite to poachers who gather the “bakawan” which is a very good material for charcoal. In 1975, the 145 hectare area was declared as Pagbilao Mangrove Experimental Forest by virtue of Bureau of Forest Development (BFD) Administrative Order No. 7 (s. 1975). This declaration provided the necessary protection (and funding) and further poaching was prevented. Now, the diverse ecosystem makes the area a favorite field trip destination mostly of botany and zoology students from prestigious universities. Now haven for photographers and Corporate outings.

Bantay PAWIKAN Conservation Center

Adopt a Turtle in Pawikan Conservation Center

Best of Subic/Bataan Eco Tour for Family/Company or School Field Trip

http://mothernatureasia.multiply.com/photos/album/22/Subic_EcoTour_Bantay_Pawikan_Conservation_Center_

Marine Turtles are transboundary creatures, they travel great distances to feed and grow. But because as hatchlings the imprint the magnetic fiel of area they always go back to where they were hatched after 25 to 30 years to copulate and lay their eggs.

How ever communities especially in underdeveloped countries, uninformed of their functions in the environment have hunted them down in the sea or slaughtered them while they lay their eggs in the beach for their shell and skin. While their eggs and meat are collected as food.

NACCI now promotes and support the Pawikan Conservation Center, a community based project of reformed poachers in the protection of the turtles.

Familiarize yourself with jungle survival techniques from US Navy-trained Aeta Training Officers. Visit the Mini Zoo and discover Subic’s diverse biological resources or see how the butterflies live and flourish at the Butterfly Kingdom. The sun. The sand. The sky. Surfing Clinic at La Union

SURFING Clinic at La Union

Surfing Season November to February

Surf in San Fernando is mainly situated around San Juan about 7 kilometers north of the city in a developing “Bario” (hamlet) picturesque Urbiztondo. Its the gateway to many uncrowded points and beach breaks still rarely surfed. A right hand reef point break that works at its best with a north producing swell and giving good quality waves on its best days, can hold up to 8 to 10ft. A beach break in the centre of the bay that offers good clean lefts and rights that work best on a low tide will hold up to 6 to 8ft a great fun wave but often crowded especially weekends. The left point often works in both ways depending on swell direction but is considered shallow by many and is less crowded, can be a 200 metre left hander when it works and a freight train right hander on the north swell.

Tides and Seasons

The tide here works on a 2 tide system per day 1 high and 1 low averaging just over 12 hours between

high and low thus creeping forward each day gradually, giving longer than normal surfing sessions on the right tide. The most consistent time of year starts around October and goes through to March with peak times around December and January which tends to be the more crowded time of year attracting surfers from all around the world.

Festival of Rice Terraces : Tagtag di Asipulo

Dear Friends,

We enjoin you to be part of SITMo’s Tagtag di Asipulo Tour on May 15 to 17, 2009. It will be held in Amduntog Village in Asipulo, a laidback and beautiful town in Ifugao.

tagtag

Tagtag is a traditional ritual to protect the rice crop from rats and other pests. It is also a ritual to drive away evils and bad omens from Ifugao communities.

Please support this tour as it helps the Ifugao rice terraces by bringing tourists to share the tourism income with the community. Part of the proceeds of the tour goes directly to the community to help them promote their indigenous culture and preserve the rice terraces.

The Tagtag di Asipulo Tour gives the tourists the opportunity to see an important aspect of the Ifugao culture that has nurtured the Ifugao rice terraces for thousands of years.

Visits to the famous Banaue rice terraces and Hapao rice terraces are also included in the itinerary. The Ifugao rice terraces will be at its finest during this time of the year.

Thank you very much.

Very truly yours,

TEDDY B. BAGUILAT, JR.

DanJuGan Sanctuary Dive Galore

DANJUGAN Dive Galore

Danjugan is a 43-hectare tropical island with three scenic lagoons, fringing reefs, white sand beaches, and few tourists to share this island with. It is located in Cauayan, Negros Occidental. There are daily flights from Manila to Bacolod City, the gateway to Occidental Negros.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are great activities in the area. It was declared as the best-managed reef in 2001. Much research and protection has been done in the area for more than 15 years that most of the coral reefs now have 100 percent live coral cover. There is a good chance to encounter impressive marine species such as manta rays, turtles, and napoleon wrasses.

Danjugan is a protected area and conscious efforts to protect the natural environment of the island and its surrounding waters have made the site managers decide to minimize the entry and stay of people into the island. Thus, only 24 people can stay for a night in the area using real ecolodges*

PHOTOS : http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=43553&l=65f35&id=655330405

For non-divers, the island is also a great place to commune with nature. Laze in any of the empty beaches or kayak in scenic lagoons while watching a pair of resident sea eagles soaring in the sky.

You can also have the island exclusively for yourself or share it with up to nine of your friends. Your own island sanctuary.

For the youth and student groups, there’s a module for marine and ecology camp where the participants will stay for several days learning various ecological concepts and environmental awareness. Learn to identify plants, birds, fishes and corals and their roles in the environment.

*Ecolodges are accommodation facilities that blend with nature and do not require high energy. There are no airconditioners and electricity is supplied by solar energy

Open Water KAYAKING Course

OPEN WATER KAYAKING COURSE

http://mothernatureasia.multiply.com/calendar/item/10114

The Philippine Kayaking Association, Inc. (PKA), an association of recreational paddlers in the country since May 1997, is announcing the start of its formal Kayaking Courses for 2008.

PKA is inviting novice paddlers and water sports enthusiast for the first Open Water Kayaking Course. The entire course will require three full days: 20-21 September (weekend overnight); and 4 October (Saturday graduation run). Base camp is at Caylabne Bay Resort (1-2 hrs by land from Manila or about 80kms) in Ternate, Cavite, where separate rates for air-conditioned rooms are also available.

Training description

It is a hands-on training for open water kayaking utilizing sit-on-top kayak boats (self-bailing, non-sinkable, and open-cockpit kayak boats). It involves inshore & offshore kayaking runs to gain proficiency and confidence in handling different types of sea conditions.

Target participants

It is recommended for water-sports enthusiast and novice paddlers but also applicable for sea kayakers who simply want to fine tune their seamanship skills for recreational purposes.

Ideal profile

Participants must display a minimum amount of qualities for an effective and more enjoyable training experience. For example, confident to swim and tread water; does regular exercise; no ailments, no serious heart condition; and has good disposition in the face of varying sea conditions. Accompanying minors can be given a modified recreational course with advance notice.

Expected output

After this course, the graduate is expected to be proficient in paddling sit-on-top kayak boats for offshore trips. He/she is encouraged to go on his own paddling adventures & expeditions with family or friends and immediately enjoy the benefits of his/her training.

Next level

The graduate is highly encouraged to develop further his seamanship skills and paddling skills if he is to attempt sea crossings or large lakes whether solo or in groups. One can only improve by spending more time on the water whether short runs or longer expeditions. Support boats and hi-technology communication tools including GPS are not always available and their absence should not hinder a recreational kayaker with adequate paddling and seamanship skills. A constant necessity is to do thorough planning (if possible w/ charts), proper outfitting, timing the ideal sea conditions, and a lot of common sense. With more precision without taking the fun out of it, one can learn through experience how to navigate from the seat of your pants.

Mechanics :

1.        Reservations are required and down payment. Full rate of the course is Php5,500 per kayaker.

2.       Inclusions: sit-on-top kayaking rentals & support boat, Caylabne entrance fees & use of its resort facilities, training instruction by PKA, and meals good for three days.

3.       Exclusions: transportation to and from Manila; insurance; personal effects & toiletries; camping tents & sleeping bags. Note that Caylabne offers air-conditioned rooms but separately available with advance booking.

4.       Car pool policy: PKA has no official van but in case generous drivers abound then we will ask passengers to pay them some small fee (to defray gas or toll fee).

5.       Cancellation policy: only if a typhoon is in Cavite or very dangerous sea conditions.

6.       Refund policy: none. The trip can be rescheduled if no. 5 happens.

7.       Optional things to bring: personal or specialized gear & apparel (if the kayaker has them), camera, sighting compass, compact binoculars, Ternate nautical charts, energy bars, biscuits, lightweight dry bags/aquapacks, etc.

8.       Necessary things to bring: if camping out you need tent/sleeping bag/mat/blanket/pillow (limited tents at base camp), sports/swim apparel/rash guard, sunscreen lotion, hat, windbreaker, toiletries, medicines, off lotion, hydration pack, etc.

9.       Procedure for no. 1: fill up the form below and email to fbb19@yahoo.com and contact Mr. Felix Baguilat to confirm receipt at Globe cell: 0917-8856299 or Ms. Violet at 5157964
